Building swimming pools
allowed John to bring joy to families

In the early 1960’s, John W. Hayes was operating Atlas Septic Systems when he was approached to excavate his first swimming pool. It was an introduction to an industry that would come to change his life and that of his family forever. It did not take John long to realize that the market for swimming pools was greater, but, more importantly, building swimming pools allowed John to bring joy to families in a way he never could with septic systems.

In 1966, John had the honor of bringing his sons, Bob and Joe, into the business and officially incorporating “Quality Pools.” In those early years, they specialized in vinyl liner pools in summer and building warehouses to supplement the business during winter. But for John Hayes and his sons, their dreams were too big to stop there.

Sadly, in 1973, John passed away, but his dreams live on in Bob and Joe. Firmly rooted in the same values and principles instilled in them from their father, John’s sons have grown Quality Pools to heights that would surely make him proud.

From its humble beginnings, Quality Pools continues to grow as the Hayes family has grown. Most recently, in 2001, Joe’s daughter and son-in-law joined the business to carry it on to the next generation. Together, the family works to propel John’s legacy of building the highest quality pools and providing the finest customer experience.

Joe, Brian and the rest of the Quality Swimming Pool crew were great. They were prompt, professional and kept the work site tidy such that our family could still enjoy our backyard while the pool was being built. While there may be less expensive options, the gunite pool they built will last far longer with (hopefully) less maintenance. What kind of pools do you build?

We specialize in vinyl liner, concrete and stainless steel in-ground swimming pools, spas and water features. You can visit the image gallery for a sample of our extensive portfolio.

How do I start the process to build a pool?

The best way to start is by giving us a call. We start by asking a few questions about the type of pool and features you are interested in. We then set an appointment to check access to the site, take measurements, locate utilities, etc. We then ask you detailed questions about your desires and expectations of the swimming pool so that we can build exactly what you want. Once we have an idea of what you want we can then submit a proposal. The timeframe from the first call to a signed contract usually entails a few meetings and phone calls over the course of a few weeks. You can also complete this form to have us contact you.

What can I expect to invest to build a “Quality Pool?”

Our pools range from the mid-thirty thousand to several hundred thousand depending on the scope of the project and the owner’s desires.

How can I pay for the pool?

Most owners will use home equity loans. We will invoice you as work progresses according to a pre-arranged schedule. This payment schedule varies with the scope of the project and can vary from 3 to 4 for most backyard pools and up to twelve payments for large commercial or institutional pools.

Do you build the pool or use subcontractors?

The majority of our work is performed in-house. We have two construction supervisors who have nearly sixty years of combined experience with Quality Pools and with their skill, knowledge and expertise there are few projects that we can’t take on. There are specialized trades such as electric and gas for which we are not licensed, but we do have licensed subcontractors who we can recommend and orchestrate to ensure the project runs smoothly.

How long will the construction take?

Generally 4-8 weeks, but an elaborate project can take much longer. We take our time to make sure the construction is done properly the first time. The biggest contributor to delays is central Ohio’s weather.

How do you get your work?

The majority of our pools come from referrals. And since we have been building pools for over 40 years there many clients for whom we have built multiple pools as they have owned different homes over the years.

How big of a company is Quality Pools?

Though we are one of central Ohio’s largest pool companies being the biggest is not our main focus. We are not interested in building hundreds of pools each year because we believe the quality of work will suffer and, after all, “quality” is in our name.

Why do bids from different companies vary so much?

There is much more in the price than the size or shape of a pool. Unseen factors such as quality of material, craftsmanship, warranties and customer service affect the price greatly. We offer one of the strongest warranties of central Ohio builders and we serve as warranty service centers for all products we use ensuring a smooth claims process. The price is only one of many factors that should be used when selecting a builder.

Everyone tells me they will build the best pool. How can I decide?

The most important factor is that you feel comfortable with and can communicate with the company you decide to hire. Has the company listened to you about what you want from your swimming pool or are you being sold something off the shelf? How thoroughly have your questions been answered? How long has the company been in business? Have you visited comparable pools by that builder? Have you visited a pool under construction? Quality Pools offers this and much more!
